This semi knock down rebuild project was located in Upwey, Melbourne. 

Project Overview

Located within a Heritage Overlay in Upwey, this home underwent a semi knock-down and rebuild, expanding to almost three times its original size while carefully respecting the original home’s character and streetscape.

Working alongside the architect, Bright Side Interiors was engaged to refine the architectural layout, ensuring the home achieved the highest level of interior functionality before construction commenced. I then delivered the complete interior design package, including spatial planning, bespoke joinery design, bathroom and laundry designs, lighting and electrical plans, architectural detailing, fixtures, finishes, material selections and all interior documentation required before construction. Furniture and styling were intentionally excluded from the scope, allowing the clients to curate these final layers themselves.

Interior Design Highlights

• Refined the architectural floor plan to improve functionality and flow.
• Opened up the kitchen area which was previously walled off from the living zones 
• Redesigned the staircase to maximise the walk-in pantry and improve the overall layout.
• Introduced feature archways, coffered ceilings and wainscoting to celebrate the home’s heritage character.
• Created a concealed cloak room and a dedicated home office by reconfiguring the original layout.
• Rearranged windows to ensure future furniture would have a place
• Designed bespoke joinery throughout the home, embracing the dramatic pitched ceilings upstairs.
• Incorporated custom angular shower seating to reflect the unique roof forms.
• Developed a timeless palette of walnut flooring, warm neutral walls, crisp white trims and bold black internal doors.
• Designed a grand formal dining room centred around a custom 5.3m x 1.9m dining table designed to comfortably seat 24 guests.
• Prepared the complete lighting design and electrical layouts for the home.

The result is a timeless family home that seamlessly blends heritage character with contemporary living, where every interior detail was thoughtfully designed to create a home that is as functional as it is beautiful.
