Luxury apartment, South Melbourne.

The Location:

“Montague Square” is a new apartment block in South Melbourne. They are a build-to-rent model which is a new concept for apartment blocks! 

The Brief:

This particular apartment was designed for the developer and his family as their holiday home. They live interstate but travel often to Melbourne for work. 

The brief was clear: Modern, sophisticated with a hint of glam. Low maintenance furntiure was key as the family will not reside here year-round. 

The Process:

The first step was to design a proposal for my client for their approval. I created mood boards and presented them before shopping for everything. With a tight lead time in mind, I found the perfect pieces, ready to install within 3 weeks of the proposal while the family were trapped in NSW with border closures (lockdown).

I kept the large pieces quite neutral, bringing accents of colour through the styling and decor only. The overall colour scheme derived from the grey tiled floor, white walls, black window frames and wooden cabnetry. With plenty of natural light flooding in, black furniture became a key trend to add depth and impact to each space. 

With a neutral canvas, the popping colours selected for the cushions and artwork created just enough drama for a luxurious feel.
